Featured is the unique artistry of Kassaba for the live broadcast Saturday, September 1rst, at 8pm. Kassaba is an ensemble of professionally trained musicians who blend jazz, classical and world elements into an original repertoire that defies categorization. Hear them live at 93.5FM or online at www.wvbr.com or www.crossingborderslive.org. Admission to the concert is $10, and 2007 Passport holders are admitted free. Heather Dunbar guest hosts. Kassaba consists of pianists and Cleveland Institute of Music alums Candice Lee and Greg Slawson, bassist Chris Vance, and Mark Boich on saxes and percussion (both Boich and Vance are Berklee College of Music alums). There are 25 various non-traditional percussion instruments used. Slawson is the composer of Kassaba material. The group has released two Cds. The debut Cd, Zones, is featured on a promotional DVD for the book 'Managing as Designing' (edited by Fred Collopy and Richard Boland, Jr.). The newest Cd, Dark Eye, now available on CD baby and ITunes Music Store, is "not easy listening", according to Cool Cleveland. "Just when you think you might wander off and do something else, the music reaches out and grabs you, forcing you to pay attention...it is NOT ignorable." The Cd offers a range of style and exploration, as if pursuing the mystery of its title. For more information and to hear a preview, go to: www.Kassaba.com. |
