Crossing Borders LIVE Radio Concert Series on WVBR continues its Eastern European Gypsy Series with Babik, at 8 pm, Saturday, September 29th. The concert airs LIVE from Club 360, Upstairs at Pancho Villa, 602 W. State Street. The Buffalo-based gypsy swing quartet debuted in Ithaca as opening set for the Les Yeaux Noir performance last spring at the State Theater. Admission is only $12; Crossing Borders 2007 Passport subscription holders are admitted free. The performance airs simultaneously on Crossing Borders, 93.5 fm, WVBR, and can be accessed online at www.wvbr.com. or www.crossingborderslive.org.

A Buffalo favorite since its creation in 2005, Babik has been named ArtVoice Reader's Best Jazz Band for both 2006 and 2007, and garnered the "Best Jazz Act" award for the same years by Buffalo Spree Magazine. The debut Cd, Babik, along with a concert DVD, Live at Sessions, became immediate #1 best-sellers in the Buffalo area.

Members of the group include Stuart Fuchs on guitar, Geoff Perry on violin, Josh Assad on rhythm guitar, and Kevin O'Brien on upright bass. All music is performed on acoustic instruments chosen specifically for the gypsy sound. Over 200 concerts are underway for 2007, as well as a circuit of outreach workshop teaching at high schools and colleges. Babik's music is also orchestrated for symphony orchestra, with an inaugural concert set with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra on March 8, 2008.

The Crossing Borders 2007 Eastern European Series continues on October 20th with the Yuri Yunakov Romani Wedding Band, including an afternoon of Romani music, culture and dance workshop events on Saturday, October 20th. On October 13th, Crossing Borders features the jazz styling of Trio East and Jeff Campbell, sponsored by Cornell Jazz, SFAC, and Department of Music.
